Flamel

2007

(right ankle, outer)

I love the Fullmetal Alchemist manga. Since the third issue came out, I’ve been an avid reader and always admired the Flamel tattoos on the Alchemists. They symbolize change and transformation, which was important for me at the time since I’d just gotten divorced, and – in the manga – the good/ordered/harmony side of the spectrum. The Flamel has been around for centuries, this is simply a stylized version for the manga.

This tattoo was done by Rick Harnowski, who has been tattooing for more than 50 years and is locally known for being the official tattoo artist for the Green Bay Packers, and has his own tattoo convention. He is a perfectionist who made sure every point was sharp, and laid on the floor to make sure that the design was perfectly straight on my ankle. He also looks like a blond Christopher Walken.
